Mastery from alignment

This isn’t a traditional MFA.
There are no professors. No gatekeepers. No grades.

Just me——committed to reclaiming creative sovereignty through focused study, soulful work, and lived experience.

This is my self-guided MFA in Culture, Flavor, and Power.
A living journey in learning, making, and becoming.

My Practice (core themes)

Culture

Centering stories of people, place, and identity——especially Black and Brown creatives and laborers.

Flavor

Exploring food as a creative and cultural force——blending memory, heritage, and invention.

Power

Creating work that awakens voice, agency, and self-expression through visual and written storytelling.

My Structure

I don’t follow a rigid curriculum.
Instead, I move in cycles of study, experimentation, and reflection—mixing disciplines, mediums, and influences along the way.

Creative Cycles Include:

  • Visual studies (photo essays, portraiture, still life)

  • Culinary experiments + food writing

  • Voice + written reflections

  • Documentary-style practice

  • Self-assignments + prompts

  • Skill development (lighting, editing, plating, etc.)

  • Artist research + reading

  • Notes from set (as a PA/digi)

What I’m exploring right now

I’m just getting started, but here are a few things I’m planning to explore in upcoming cycles:

  • Portraits of artists, chefs, and cultural laborers

  • Photo essays on place, texture, and memory

  • Recipes that remix tradition and invention

  • Voiceovers paired with visuals

  • Process journaling from commercial shoots

  • Rebuilding foundational culinary technique

  • Learning from artists I admire

This page will grow with me

This MFA is a long-term commitment. I’ll be updating this page as I create and share new work——photo essays, short films, written pieces, and more.

Thanks for witnessing the journey.
