Mastery from alignment
This isn’t a traditional MFA.
There are no professors. No gatekeepers. No grades.
Just me——committed to reclaiming creative sovereignty through focused study, soulful work, and lived experience.
This is my self-guided MFA in Culture, Flavor, and Power.
A living journey in learning, making, and becoming.
My Practice (core themes)
Culture
Centering stories of people, place, and identity——especially Black and Brown creatives and laborers.
Flavor
Exploring food as a creative and cultural force——blending memory, heritage, and invention.
Power
Creating work that awakens voice, agency, and self-expression through visual and written storytelling.
My Structure
I don’t follow a rigid curriculum.
Instead, I move in cycles of study, experimentation, and reflection—mixing disciplines, mediums, and influences along the way.
–
Creative Cycles Include:
Visual studies (photo essays, portraiture, still life)
Culinary experiments + food writing
Voice + written reflections
Documentary-style practice
Self-assignments + prompts
Skill development (lighting, editing, plating, etc.)
Artist research + reading
Notes from set (as a PA/digi)
What I’m exploring right now
I’m just getting started, but here are a few things I’m planning to explore in upcoming cycles:
Portraits of artists, chefs, and cultural laborers
Photo essays on place, texture, and memory
Recipes that remix tradition and invention
Voiceovers paired with visuals
Process journaling from commercial shoots
Rebuilding foundational culinary technique
Learning from artists I admire
This page will grow with me
This MFA is a long-term commitment. I’ll be updating this page as I create and share new work——photo essays, short films, written pieces, and more.
Thanks for witnessing the journey.
